Q: Airdrop

Why does Airdrop not work half the time???

I have a 2013 iMac running 10.10.5, and a 2015 MacBook Pro, also running 10.10.5.

Frequently with both machines sitting next to each other one will show the other machine, but the other refuses to register that the other is sitting there waiting to be discovered.

It's just so maddening that it's so flakey. Other times things register right away, and then for inexplicable reasons things just won't connect up.

OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

These don't help because they don't cover the problems me and a lot of other people experience with using Airdrop. Like I explained, sometimes despite having everything set up correctly, Airdrop just fails. It doesn't 'see' machines it should. For instance, last night my iMac could 'see' my laptop, but my laptop wouldn't register the iMac. I could send items from iMac to MBP however and they would send via the notifications bubble. But I couldn't pass a file right back over to iMac when the previous day I could.

This is maddening because the icon just won't show for other computers, or they show up and then just randomly disappear so you can't toss files over. It's just maddening wasting time to try and get two machines to communicate with OSX.
