Connect airport time capsule to telstra NBN

Grateful for some help with the settings required to set up my Airport time capsule with Telstra NBN via the Telstra provided Gateway max modem router, I wish to use the TC as my router and for backups, I understand I need to connect the TC via an ethernet cable to the Gateway and in order to use the TC as a router I need to set the gateway into Bridge mode, thanks in advance

You will find this extremely difficult to accomplish.

I am guessing your NBN is FTTN but please correct me if I am wrong.

And your gateway max is TG799AC .. (Telstra name lots of different routers gateway max to make life easier for support!!)

Are you getting your phone connection via VOIP through the gateway. You cannot bridge it in that case.

What that all adds up to is a big NO for bridging the gateway. If you actually do not need the voip then it might be possible to bridge but this is not easy. Also the fact is the TC does not tend to work well in this setup.

There are a couple of methods to use the TC in conjunction with the gateway.. but using it as a router is not great.

Backups are no problem. Any setup tends to work ok.

Using the TC as router might simply not work or work badly.

Tell me why you want to use the TC as your router.. ??

I use a TC in static IP mode with DHCP working.. that means all the clients of the TC get their connection via the TC and it is a partial router, but no NAT.. this works extremely well and I would commend it as way around the issue.

Some people do keep using the TG799 as main router and also use the TC as router in the DMZ. That also can work ok.. although IMHO using static IP simply works better.

Thank you for your very prompt response, I am looking for the best set up and it was suggested on line to bridge the TG799 and use the TC as a router, basically looking for recommendations for the most stable set up for my network which will incorporate the TC for back ups. I currently have my TC working perfectly with my ADSL modem, in the airport utility router mode set up the setting is "off (bridge mode), so I presume my Telstra modem is operating as a router and my TC purely connected Via an ethernet cable for backup, I am not wi fi literate so looking at the best / simplest set up.

In ideal world yes.. in the world as it exists.. probably more pain and trouble than its worth.

Stick to it.. there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this.. and if you are using ethernet instead of wireless that makes it that much more reliable.

My advice then is when you are swapped over to NBN.. reboot the TC and see how it all works.. if you have issues post again and I can help you work your way around it.
