. it does bring to mind another reason why the unlock from apple only works with the watch (other than the one Leroy mentioned of course ) and that is that
Apple has gotten bad press in the past from cutting the legs out form under a developer with a product that they then incorporate into the OS or release something with that functionality for no cost to the user.
I will look again at the security aspects of the iOS apps you linked to and give them further consideration.
