Q: Apple wireless keyboard goes haywire

My Apple wireless keyboard goes haywire after I wake my mac mini from sleep.  It either opens a window for foreign accents for vowels or repeats the initial keystroke 30-50 times.  If I shut off the keyboard and turn it back on everything works as it should.  I reset the SMC & NVRAM but with no effect.  Initially I thought my keyboard was the problem.  So I purchased another one and the problem persists.  I have since upgraded from El Capitan to Sierra and the problems persist.  I suspect I have  a firmware or hardware issue.  It doesn't seem that others are having this set of problems.  Suggestions?

Mac mini, macOS Sierra (10.12)

I have been have a similar problem after waking. When I try to log in characters are automatically typed, Turning off and then back on the Apple BT KB resolves the problem. It happened with El Capitan and with Sierra too.
