Update iphone 6s to ios10, headphone jack stoped working

Hi,

I'm using iphone 6s 64gb from 5 months, recently i updated it to ios10. After updating, my headphones jack is not working properly, my apple headphones are working perfectly(checked with other devices), even phone is detecting the headphones but they are not working. if i do restart it will work for sometime, and again the same issue.

I even cleaned out the headphone jack of dust. I don't think its the jack problem, may be its the issue with ios10 upgrade or some bunch of devices are facing this problem with this update. Any solution for this?

Hello, fellow sufferers.

I have had the same problem since upgrading to iOS10. This issue occurs on my iPhone 6S Plus (on O2, bought from Apple online), my wife's iPhone 6S Plus (on Vodafone, bought from Apple store) and my son's iPhone 6 (bought from Vodafone store). All 3 were bought from different places at different times.

On my phone, I have tried:

  • Factory reset then restore
  • Factory reset and set up as new phone
  • Upgrading to the 10.3 beta
  • Swapping out my headphones
  • All the suggestions here and more

Nothing works. The only temporary fix is either to reboot or switch to speaker and back, and even then, these "fixes" only work for a short while (I use my phone all day for my work).

I phoned Apple about this on 3 occasions. Each time they try to palm me off with a replacement phone. Note: having had a replacement iPad, you should bear in mind you do NOT get a new phone if Apple swap you out, but a refurb. I told them I don't want/need a "new" phone - it is not a hardware issue. I tried to get them to let me email them this thread so they can see it's a widespread issue but they refused that. I asked them to admit there was a fault with iOS; they would not. Just kept saying over and over "let an engineer look at it and we can go from there".

I am convinced this is poor programming in iOS10 for that stupid iPhone 7 headphone jack. I'd go back to iOS9 but my backups from then have been overwritten.

Frankly, considering how overpriced this Apple piece of junk is, we should receive better service. At least admit there's a problem! This is taking the p*** now.

I have replaced my iPhone 6S Plus 3 times. That's right, I am on my fourth iPhone 6S Plus since May. Same issues. Aux jack stops working in just about every way. Can't hear anything. No one can hear you. Buttons don't work. Siri no longer works.

I was just told this weekend by a senior tech that you'll need to have an Apple Store replace the phone with the same model, just with a different version. The last FOUR in the serial number should be different. I looked at my invoices and sure enough, all serial numbers ended with the same four numbers.

I will be replacing my phone today and setting it up as a new phone. I'll report back if this "fixes" the issue. My concern is what about those that are out of their warranty and cannot replace their phone at no cost?

iOS 10 truly has become a headache for many.

This worked for me . When I got to Volume Limit said it was "off" and when I looked was at zero on the bar.

Moved it and switched to "On" and call worked.

The other possibility that someone at Apple told me when I first got this phone (and problem) was:

go to General

go to Reset

then press Reset Network settings

worked at the time

Not exactly what you want from the Rolls-Royce of phones!!!

Same problem here - with a 6s. Once iOS 10 hit the phone the headphone jack began random failure. Tried various headphone, and other tricks. Only thing that works is: 1) hit speaker button, 2) reset phone, 3) power down and power up phone. Hitting speaker button only works so many times - once it stops solving the problem then 2 and 3 above need to be done. Also I've had the speak to dictate a message fail but headphone work for calls.

I've had 3 phone replacements with he same problems. Just now had a call with a senior tech who submitted a report to engineering. Up to 5 days for a response from them.

I'm sure it's a planned 'glitch' to force us to buy a 7.

This whole conundrum is still going on. Currently on IOS 10.3.3 and I'm having to hard reset (power button and home button at the same time) my phone on almost a daily basis. I use my phone for so many things, and this is such a hassle trying to deal with it. I've dealt with a senior rep with Apple Support awhile ago; I don't know how many times I've backed up and restored my phone. I even did a completely clean restore one time and lost a bunch of my old data. This problem still persists!

The confusing part is trying to reconcile if this is completely software (IOS) related, hardware related (which doesn't make too much sense, as the problem is temporarily rectified upon resetting my IPhone); or is it a combination of both software and specific hardware?

Does anyone have any updates specific to this situation? Also, Apple, please address this issue. I'm currently on my fourth IPhone upgrade, and don't know if I will stay with Apple after my next upgrade as this issue has plagued my phone.

Did you already try the general troubleshooting steps?

1. Force restart the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data.

2. In case this does not work, set it back to factory settings, without using the latest backup. Test the headphones. If they work, restore from the backup.

Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

3. If factory resetting does not help, get the phone checked by Apple:

Start a service request

Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider

Make an Apple Store appointment

Thanks for directing me here.

Got excatly the same problem on my SE, I tested with 4 diffrent jacks now, 1 pair of apple earpod, another 2 pairs of headphones, and a speaker, none of them works on my phone since ios10

if anyone from apple is reading this, I asked a friend who own an iphone 6 with ios10, her headphone is working perfectly.

My bluetooth earphone works just fine though, please don't tell me this is apple secretly trying to kill headphone jacks.😐

No, there are no updates 😟 I found strange behavior when this problem occures and call is not transmitted into connected headphones - no sound into headphones problem. If at this moment tap on "Speaker" icon, call is redirected into the speaker, when you tap again on "Speaker" icon call is correctly forwarded into the headphones and everything works correctly. But only until call end. Could you try this behavior on your devices? I thing, that this behavior confirms the iOS 10 issue, instead hardware problem. If anyone from Apple is reading this discussion, can you confirm Apple solves this issue??? This is critical issue because calling is main purpose of iphone 😟
