Q: No audio - Win 10 on iMac Retina 27

I have set up a 2015+ iMac 27 Retina with Windows 10 on an external flash drive (Samsung T3)

The bootcamp support software installer says "this mac is not supported" or the like, despite being the latest and greatest bootcamp release that claims to support this machine. However, I did install the drivers in the folder and the Mac is fine - except no audio out.

When I open the Sound devices panel, there are 6 instances of "Digital Display Audio" listed (AMD High Definition Audio Devices) that are all "not plugged in", then a "Digital Audio (S/PDIF)" item that is enabled and clearly has signal going through it.

I have tried reinstalling Cirrus drivers, and all manner of other things - any ideas?

Thanks!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

You mention two different versions - 6.0.6136 and 5.1.5640.

    5.1.5640 supports

    File Size: 925.6 MB

    System Requirements

    • MacBook Air (11-inch & 13-inch, Early 2014)
    • MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch & 15-inch, Mid 2014)
    • MacBook Air (11-inch & 13-inch, Mid 2013)
    • MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch & 15-inch, Late 2013)
    • Mac Pro (Late 2013)
    • iMac (21.5-inch & 27-inch, Late 2013)
    • Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1, 64 bit

    which supports a 2013 iMac.

Neither version seems to be correct

For a Late 2015 iMac 27 inch (Model iMac 17,1), the version I get is

Can you switch to OSX, run BC Assistant and download the BC6 driver package to a USB2 flash drive using

Post the Product version and then run setup.exe from the USB after you switch to Windows.

    Hi,

I just did exactly the process described above. The <ProductVersion> is 6.0.6136 - where did you get a .xml that reads .6237?

I also continue to get the "This version of Boot Camp is not intended for this computer model" message when I try to run Setup from within the BootCamp folder.

    Ideas?

Can you post the exact Model Identifier from About This Mac -> System Report? Please do not post the serial number of your Mac.

Can you use Brigadier (https://github.com/timsutton/brigadier) and try to download the software again?

Here is an example log, for a MacBook8,1.

    MyName-rmbp:brigadier-master MyName$ ./brigadier -h

    Usage: brigadier [options]

    Options:

-h, --help            show this help message and exit

      -m MODEL, --model=MODEL

System model identifier to use (otherwise this

machine's model is used). This can be specified

multiple times to download multiple models in a single

                            run.

-i, --install         After the installer is downloaded, perform the install

automatically. Can be used on Windows only.

      -o OUTPUT_DIR, --output-dir=OUTPUT_DIR

Base path where the installer files will be extracted

into a folder named after the product, ie.

'BootCamp-041-1234'. Uses the current directory if

                            this option is omitted.

-k, --keep-files      Keep the files that were downloaded/extracted. Useful

only with the '--install' option on Windows.

      -p PRODUCT_ID, --product-id=PRODUCT_ID

Specify an exact product ID to download (ie.

'031-0787'), currently useful only for cases where a

model has multiple BootCamp ESDs available and is not

downloading the desired version according to the post

                            date.

    MyName-rMBP:brigadier-master MyName$ ./brigadier -m MacBook8,1 -o Bootcamp-MacBook8,1

Output directory Bootcamp-MacBook8,1 that was specified doesn't exist!

    MyName-rMBP:brigadier-master MyName$ ./brigadier -m MacBook8,1 -o Bootcamp-MacBook8.1

I used the binary on the Windows machine, and it downloaded a version for 17,1 - but no files in the folder after the download. Maybe it installed it as part of the process, but the script window didn't stay open long enough for me to confirm and still no results (no audio still). So not sure what happened. I don't have python set up on my Mac to do it there.

Python is part of the default OS X installation.

    type python

    python is hashed (/usr/bin/python)

    python -V

    Python 2.7.10

Using the OS X side, you will get a WindowsSupport.dmg in the designated output directory.

I am afraid the sound driver offered by apple via bootcamp for windows is not compatible with your hardware.

The solution is to reinstall apple OSX and use VMware which will allow you to use the windows virtually and not as a partition and also the sound will work since you will be using the apple driver from the OSX.

I have done this before with one of my customer. It worked for them. Hope this will help you and someone else in the future.

    LonerT, you are a lifesaver!

Using Brigadier on the Mac side gave me a .dmg like you said and Bootcamp finally worked on the Windows side and I now have AUDIO!!!!

    Thanks so much! So helpful.

Thanks for the suggestion - in this case we're talking about playing high frame rate games, so VMWare would not work. See below - there are drivers available, you just have to get them using Brigadier!

That is true: there are drivers available but not designed by Apple. Apple does not have driver compatible with your computer for microsoft windows. Brigadier like any other software will allow the driver to be compatible with Microsoft since you are using a windows partition. VMWare however allows to use the apple audio driver from OSX directly into the virtual installation of windows. VMWare can be looked at from the scenario where it is easier to copy and paste files from windows to apple and vice versa or do a backup rather than switching from one partition to another at the time.

As for games, bootcamp is more reliable since it will give you a better performance and allow you to play around with the virtual memory. So you are right on this one as well. Good luck. Glad Brigadier worked for you.
