Skype on macOS Sierra each too much memory

Hi,

I made a wrong decision to install Sierra (earlier it was El Capitan). The overall system got (negative) performance hit but I know I have to live with it. However, I have serious issue while running Skype. After starting up it starts taking memory and in few minutes it reaches beyond 2 GB. I contacted Skype support and their representative remotely accessed my system and checked everything but found no issue.

Is there anyone who is facing the same problem and what is the remedy?

Last but not least, special thanks goes to Apple for just making our machines slow and in compensation giving us couple of useless features.

Thanks

Mac mini, macOS Sierra (10.12), null

I have the same issue with Skype on Sierra. This morning, I had to kill the process. According to Activity Monitor, Skype was using 36GB of memory. You are reading that right, 36GB of memory. The entire machine was virtually non-responsive as it was so busy swapping memory to disk. After I killed the process, the machine returned to normal - so it is definitely Skype.

I have fixed the problem by fully removing SKYPE and reinstall it :

  1. Quit Skype by selecting Skype > Quit Skype.
  2. Open your Applications folder and drag your copy of Skype to the trash.
  3. Then open ~/Library/Application Support * and drag the Skype folder to the trash. The ~ sign represents your home folder. To find your home folder, open Finder and, from the menu bar, select Go > Home.

Important: If you’d like to keep your chat and call history, skip this step.

  1. Open ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.skype.skype.plist to the trash.
  2. Open Finder and search for “Skype” using the search feature in Mac OS X. Move all of the results returned to the trash.
  3. Click Ctrl and the trash icon, and select Empty Trash.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Download Skype and reinstall it.

For me, this fixed the issue
