Hi

It is possible that you have only scratched through the fingerprint-resistant, oil repellent coating. It is normal for this coating to wear away under normal use, but it may have become scratched without damaging the screen beneath.

Whether you have scratched the screen or not, Apple does not recommend using cleaning products or polishing or buffing the watch with abrasives; these will wear away the coating and may also (further) scratch the screen beneath.

The watch is covered under Apple's One-Year Limited Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, but not against accidental damage or misuse. Cosmetic damage - which includes scratches - is not covered under the warranty (or AppleCare+).

If you make a Genius Bar reservation, Apple can inspect the mark and advise of any available service options:

A good quality screen protector (thin film-type) may be effective in obscuring or reducing the visibility of the marks, as well as in providing some measure of protection against future damage.

My new series 2 stainless had multiple screen micro scratches out of the box. My original series o stainless watch has absolutely no screen scratches after over a year of owning it. The coating on the series 2 seems different than the original. I'm concerned that there is a problem with the series 2 coating. I suspect there will be more reports of this issue as more people acquire the series 2 stainless watches.

My series 2 Space Black with Milanese loop came in the box with similar scratches to this on the bezel and screen - which I imagine were caused during assembly.

I think Apple need to do a recall on this watch combination because the black Milanese loop band scratches the watch screen and bezel very easily.

With just a small amount of contact you can end up with permanent scratches and marks on the sapphire screen.

In my case I purchased this watch because it had a scratch resistant screen, so to ship it with a band which actually causes scratches to the screen seems like a very bad idea.

Other people have also reported this problem with the series 2 Space Black and Milanese loop which is worrying considering how few of these watches are currently available for purchase.

If you have this combination, please make sure that your loop band doesn't come into contact with the screen of your watch AT ALL, or you'll end up with irreparable damage to your screen, and from the response above, this won't be covered by warranty.

I have a similar problem with my apple watch edition (ceramic). I bought a black Milanese loop band from Apple online store to replace the sport band included. After several days with the Milanese loop, I've noticed that there were many scratches on the sapphire screen like the pictures. These scratches are not on the coating but on the sapphire glass.

Apple customer care always says it's my fault, but I don't think it's my fault.. It's a defect of the product..

Apple should investigate this issue and do a recall if necessary....
