Q: Color Not Real

Hi,

I'm using iphone 6 which has been upgraded several times to 9.3.5 and last one to 10. I got an issue on the camera before my upgrade to 9.3.5 my camera result is normal. But since upgrade to 9.3.5 my iphone camera looks like lost the color, picture taken and screen preview show the color a little fade. Anyone encounter the same issue? I have tried to do a clean restore also does not work. Tried several times actually.

iPhone 6, iOS 10

    Hello fendy_14,

Thank you for bringing up your issue with your iPhone 6 running iOS 10 and color fading in your pictures. I understand how important the color (or lack there of in B&W photos!) is, since I just returned from a little birthday celebration vacation, and took hundreds of pictures with my iPhone! Here is the steps I would try.

The first thing we want to ensure is that all your data on both the Mac and the iPhone is safe. For the iPhone, you can make a backup in iCloud or iTunes using this article : How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Then, since you state that you have done clean restores of your iPhone "several times", I would like to offer the exact process this should be done, and how to test this to determine if there is some issue with the camera hardware. If you have done this in the exact manner in which I give these steps to you now, OR you are still getting the same issue when you attempt this final restore using the steps I provide, I will also offer something else to check since you are now running iOS 10.

Please restore your device back to factory settings, one last time, but please make sure you use iTunes. This option will erase all the data on your device. Please ensure you have your backup completed prior to doing this step. The reason we need to use iTunes to do this step is because we need iTunes to help install a fresh version of the iOS. This help article will help you to do this step: Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings. Most importantly, please ensure that you set the device up as new, and do not restore any information from any iCloud or iTunes backups at this time.

Once the device is set up as new, you will test to see if the iPhone color from your camera is working properly. If this issue is no longer happening, we know there was an issue with some data on the device or in the iOS version, which will most likely be saved in your backups. You can manually bring data back using iCloud or iTunes, but do not restore from the backup as you will bring the problem right back in. Once you log back in to iCloud with the same Apple ID that you used previously, all your data saved in iCloud will start repopulating on the device such as your contacts, calendars, and pictures. Depending on whether you have a Mac or PC use one of these two help articles to assist you in getting your music and other data back to your device from iTunes:

    1. iTunes 12 for Mac: Sync iPod, iPhone, or iPad

    2. iTunes 12 for Windows: Sync iPod, iPhone, or iPad

If you are unable or do not wish to use iTunes, you can also redownload fresh copies all of your previous purchases using this article: Download your past purchases.

If the issue is still happening, iOS 10 has added a new feature called "Color Filters" as part of Accessibility suite. Please try enabling this, and trying the different filters, and then test if the colors in your pictures look better. You do this with these steps:

Step #1. Launch Settings app on your iOS device → Tap on General.

Step #2. Now, you need to tap on Accessibility.

Step #3. Under Vision, tap on Display Accommodations.

Step #4. Up next, tap on Color Filters.

Step #5. Toggle on the switch next to Color Filters.

Step #6. Next, you have as many as five options to choose from:

    •    Grayscale

    •    Red/Green Filter

    •    Green/Red Filter

    •    Blue/Yellow Filter

    •    Color tint

Make sure to adjust the Intensity as well as Hue as per need.

Step #7. Click the back arrow on the top left of that scree, and check "Reduce White Point" See if that helps at all, or disable that feature again, and only use the Color Filters.

Step #8. Once you are done, exit the settings.

Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.

    Hello fendy_14,

We are regretful to hear that the steps provided have not brought you a favorable resolution. The next thing we want to do is to have the device checked at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store. Please use this link to find a service provider in your area: Apple find locations.

Depending on your location and iPhone warranty status of the device with an issue, there may other options available to have this checked as well. Please use this link to contact an AppleCare Advisor directly, and ask about your repair options. Contact Apple Support.

Let them know you have followed the troubleshooting steps from Irina, completely restored the device to factory settings using iTunes, and set it up new without any personal data on the iPhone, and the issue remains. They will assist you with any and all options to have the device checked in the best possible way for you, by the options available in your location.

Thanks for trying to resolve the issue with us here in the Apple Support Communities. Have a great rest of your day.
