Q: iOS10 iPhone does not appear in Windows 10 File Explorer

Since upgrading my iPhone 6s Plus to iOS 10.0.1 and iTunes to 12.5.1.21 (Windows 10 64b), I can sync in iTunes, but the phone's storage no longer appears as a drive in File Explorer.

Is this a fault? If not, how can I copy my mobile photos to my computer without using iCloud?

    Hi chasfh

Make sure when you are uninstalling the device, you also select the checkbox to remove the drivers from the computer.

    Shutdown itunes.

Plug your phone in and wait for the drivers to install. Keep the phone unlocked. At some point you will get the request to trust the computer you are connecting to, and allow access to the photo storage.

I know it can be annoying, but short of a hardware fault, its highly likely to just be drivers (the perennial Windows issue)

The very first reply is the correct one and is remarkably simple.

Unlock your phone before plugging it in via the USB cable.

OK, so, I made the conscious effort to make sure the phone was unlocked before plugging into the PC.

It did not work off the bat, but it got me closer, because this time, I saw Apple Phone under Portable Devices. I had not before.

However, it had the yellow caution "!" next it it. So I disabled and re-enabled the driver, and nothing.

Then I uninstalled the Apple Phone device from the system, plugged it out, plugged it back in ... and it now works.

I am going to need to see whether this is a persistent fix, but at least I have another avenue to pursue should the thing go "kerphlooey" again.

    Thanks.

Glad to help. I have two Thinkpad T420s that I upgraded from w7 to W10. When the iPhone was connected to each one, the contents of Devices were slightly different! What is really annoying, is that I just found out that all of my Notes have been wiped clean. I did a backup in iTunes before the upgrade, but I have yet to find out that I can't recover the Notes.

    John
