Trackpad gestures no longer work with Sierra

Immediately after upgrading to Sierra, the regular trackpad gestures that I had previously used with OS X have stopped working on my Macbook Pro. These include the 3-finger drag, 4-finger swipe up to open mission control, 4-finger swipe down to open the App Exposé, and the 4-finger swipe left/right to switch between desktops.

I have checked in the trackpad section of System Preferences, and all these gestures are enabled and should be working fine, which leads me to believe that it is a problem with macOS Sierra.

Has anyone experienced anything similar and/or found a solution for it?

(PS. Yes, I do use Better Touch Tool, but that does not provide a satisfactory solution)

I had this problem but I then realized Apple made Dashboard "off" at the Mission Control in System Preferences by default. Then I choosed Dashboard: "As Space" and now I have more than one space and 4 finger swipe is working alright now.

I've had this issue (the main one I notice is "Swipe between full-screen apps") the last few upgrades I've done, most recently to 10.13.1. Enabling/disabling the checkboxes in the "Trackpad/More Gestures" tab, and/or switching users, didn't work for me.

I noticed that Mission Control didn't seem to be working: I have my bottom left corner as hot corner for Mission Control, and moving the cursor down there did not invoke it. So I did a

% killall Dock

from the terminal, which causes the Dock (and, apparently, Mission Control) to restart. After that, both Mission Control and my trackpad gestures came back.

I am not certain if that's the "right" thing to do, but in case it helps...

Magic Trackpad 2 with 27" iMac and Sierra:

I've had this problem since I bought my new iMac and trackpad recently so am in the midst of a very long consultation with Apple to try and resolve. Spoke to 3 experts yesterday and will be chatting to them today to hopefully get the problem sorted. To date these are the steps they've taken me through:

Drag the Preference file "com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.trackpad.plist" to trash and restart - didn't work!

Check Accessibility System Preferences pane - didn't work!

Restart iMac in utilities mode and conduct a First Aid - didn't work!

Create a New User and try the Trackpad - this worked, therefore indicating not a hardware issue, but when re-starting in my own profile it didn't work.😟

Re-install Mac OS X - this didn't work.

I was then advised to do a complete wipe of the hard disk and do a clean installation as it may be a third party issue.

It's taken me ages to resolve issues I had installing other previously bought apps (e.g. Adobe CS3 Design etc) so I said this was not an option. Will wait out today to see what they recommend and re-post....

I ended up getting on the phone with Apple Support and as it seems, they have a quick fix for this very well known issue. We shut my iMac completely down for a few seconds and upon booting up they instructed me to press and hold down what I believe were the command and P buttons together on the keyboard. This prompts the piano riff to double the audible notes played signifying that the issue has been corrected after which you can release the butttons on the keyboard. Gestures restored and mouse back to normal.

I haven't seen the issue occur here.

Is it possible that there is a conflict occurring with Better Touch Tool? Has BTT issued any updates after the release of Sierra. It may be that the developer need to do some changes to the app.

What happens if you disable BTT, do you get your options working again? Note, you may have to log out and back in after disabling BTT.
