Photos for Mac

Q: Photos library does not open

My wife's Photos 1.0.1 library does not open. File size 124GB. 

MacBookPro6,2 MacOSX Yosemite 10.10.5. 8GB RAM. 

Photos opens NO window at all, but the library file time and date modified are changed.

Opening Photos with alt key pressed down gives no dialog to open a new library.

Restart has no effect.

Can anybody help?

    Backup your Photos library and hold down the option and command keys while launching Photos and repair the database

    I don't know if this will help but I had simliar issue after installing Sierra and then importing a large collection (30k+ raw images) into Photos just to see if there has been any improvement to Photos. App would launch but no window and "application not responding" in dock icon. I forced quit app 2 or 3x until finally it opened. Once opened, it seems to be pretty robust. BTW, I disabled both Google Photos backup and Amazon Drive just in case uploading activity was contributing to the issue. I have no indication they were, it was just a preventative measure.

    Thanks for the info. Problem seems to have been solved by a simple permissions repair. I should have thought of that first!
