Sep 29, 2016 1:54 PM in response to woodman2200by MSUBob,I was having this same problem, too. After studying some console logs, it appeared that the problem was with my keychain. I discovered my login password and keychain password were different. i changed my keychain password to match my login password and I was able to get my watch to unlock my iMac. Hope this helps.

Oct 8, 2016 8:01 AM in response to woodman2200by NYRik2,SOLUTION!!! I kept getting the message saying the MAC couldn't connect to Apple Watch. Tried every single solution I could find..EVERYTHING! Spent an hour with escalated support and we found the solution on accident. It was the iCloud Keychain causing the issue. Here's the solution:
- Open Finder, click GO and hold OPTION.
- Click "LIBRARY" and Open the "KEYCHAINS" folder
- Find the folder with a bunch of numbers and letters as the folder name and drag it to your desktop
- Next go to System Preferences...and into your iCloud settings. You will see that your keychain is now off. Enable the keychain by checking the box.
- Once the keychain is enabled...go through the regular methods to set it up: Automatically unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch - Apple Support
