iTunes 12.5.1 is not launching on my Windows 7 SP 1 machine

After I downloaded the latest version of iTunes I've not been able to get it to launch. When I double-click the iTunes icon my cursor will flicker into an hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing. I've tried the steps mentioned here, but no luck. I've also tried restarting, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc... with no luck.

Any ideas?

The general troubleshooting advice when iTunes fails to install properly (and reinstalling or repairing it does not work) is to remove not only iTunes but ALL related components, reboot, remove the target installation folders and reinstall. See turingtest2's excellent iTunes for Windows Troubleshooting Guide at:

for the exact procedure in the Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components section.

Any error messages during the install or did it apparently complete successfully?

Try deleting any iTunes shortcuts from the start menu, desktop or task bar, then repair iTunes from the programs and features control panel.

Failing that what specific symptoms do you get when you try to install or launch iTunes?
