Gnarlodious

Q: Change password

How do I change my password to this site? I looked all over, my profile, preferences, spent a lot of time looking, and there is nowhere to change my password.

Please be aware that I am referring to discussions.apple.com, NOT idmsa, iCloud, daw.apple.com, developer, appleid.apple.com or any other Apple subdomains. I am registered as Gnarlodious on this support website and want to change the password for that username.

The username Gnarlodious is associated with an Apple ID, which you can use in multiple places. You cannot change the password used to log into discussions.apple.com independently of other uses for that Apple ID. See Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support.

NOT TRUE! I hope I expressed unambiguously that Gnarlodious is a separate account from my Apple ID, and only applies to Support Discussions. The entire unfortunate situation is described here: Prob: 2 Apple IDs... Please observe that the smartest people in the room have explained that the situation is intractable and I am stuck forever with a dual identity. This means I cannot log into this subdomain while I am logged into iCloud or Developer using the same browser. Everything crashes.

So the question remains, how do I change my password on this subdomain only?

And while you are being so helpful, can you explain how to log into discussions.apple.com in Safari? because when I try all I get is this page:

    Screen Shot 2016-09-23 at 10.11.34 AM.png

Obviously I cannot create a new account called Gnarlodious because I am already her! The problem is that I cannot log into my account because there is no login form offered me. Historically this happens because Safari already has cookies from appleid.apple.com that conflict with discussions.apple.com. I am typing this on another browser so as to prevent cookie collisions between the two subdomains.

I keep hoping Apple gets enough brainpower to solve this problem. For the meantime, I need to change my password since my Apple Discussions password was compromised by another website.

    OK.

I am not the smartest person in the room, because "If you are the smartest in the room, you are in the wrong room."

I have 3 Apple IDs - can login easily to ASC with all = same screen presented

cookies have nothing to do with any of this except to remember the "last" one used (that could be a browser function, for all I know)

Keep in mind that while your Apple ID credentials are used to login to ASC, ASC has its OWN database of users - separate from Apple's MAIN db = credentials are merely SHARED between the two

One cannot change ASC credentials directly

    Clear all your apple.com cookies

    test your login

If no joy (same "Create NEW" screen) > Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security

You should be able to change your password with tt2's link, solve that at the same time with actual Apple employees

OK so I downloaded a THIRD browser to get around the cookie problem and tried to log in. What happened is that attempting to log in to Apple Discussions sendes me to idmsa.apple.com, which sends a verification code to my phone number, and then expects me to create a new Apple Discussions ID:

    Screen Shot 2016-09-23 at 10.39.48 AM.png

Obviously I am already Gnarlodious, and yet there I am not allowed to log in with my username. So how is it possible that I am posting as Gnarlodious in one browser yet I am not allowed to log into that account in another browser?

    I don’t make no sense.

Strange, I was able to login with a third browser by dragging the login URL from this browser to the other. The page I get is this one:

    Screen Shot 2016-09-23 at 10.45.58 AM.png

Compare this URL to the previous URL to get an idea what’s happening. On this login form, I must use Gnarlodious with my Discussions password, then I am logged in as Gnarlodious and can post on this subdomain.

If, however, I log in using my Apple ID credentials, it does not recognize Gnarlodious, and forces me to select a new username.

This from the exact same form, albeit with a different set of URL variables.

    Weird, Apple. Just weird.

Yes. One login per browser at a time... takes me about 20 seconds round trip to switch Apple ID logins

Apple seems to have implemented some changes recently that makes your logged in state PERSIST throughout AppleWideWorld - including one's "location" (I cannot "act as if I am in Germany" like I used to)

I had thought that developer.apple.com was a separate login - but it seems to "know me" when I visit there

ASC has a few "sister" sites for language specific help - they ALL have independent login (see my other post where I talk about ASC userID databases)

It does not (make sense) - I have been logged in Firefox, Chrome & Opera simultaneously in the past when troubleshooting

let me test that again....... NOW!

All GOOD - logged in with 3 browsers

Another strange thing, I got an email showing me this:

    Screen Shot 2016-09-23 at 10.57.39 AM.png

However when I click “view the full discussion” all I get is the Create Account page, it doesn’t know who I am despite being logged in to iCloud etc.

I guess I should just quit and not come to this website, its too frustrating. I only came here anyway to change my password, but I guess even that is not possible.

OK I tried to contact APPLE for account security but the page errored and it said they couldn’t help me. To add insult to injury, it offered me help for a iPhone 4, which I haven’t owned in several years. It just seems like Apple is falling apart at the seams.

When you are logged in with even one browser, do you have access to BOTH discussions.apple.com AND other subdomains?

I am beginning to wonder if I am in some special category of Discussions users who are forever stuck in username limbo.

I have a 'bookmark' with the login page "parameters" set so that I "land" on a particular forum's Content list (different from its main list) with a bunch of parameters following the main portion of the URL = very LONG = but it works flawlessly all day every day

In all 3 browsers mentioned, I have the bookmarks synced from my favorite = Firefox

Have you considered that Safari may not be the browser for your particular needs?

Original posters of questions get a 'specially' formatted email notice - that link at the top we as participants do not see

the "Title" of the thread displayed in the email is also "hot" - try that as a test of any difference in the links contained IN the email
