problems synchronising ipad mini to wifi

When I try to connect my ipad mini to the wifi it starts to do it and then stopps. I do not want all those fancy things that stop me getting access. The net and mail just stop working. Is this to do with the new operating system and why has it not been tested thoroughly if that is the problem.
