Q: Ipod screen with lines

Hi,

I have an Ipod that does not have a cracked screen, but does have lines going down it. The touch screen is no longer sensitive to touch, but in on a rare occasion it will go to the lock screen and then back to the home screen. The silver circle button on the bottom of the backside used to have to be pressed to make it work at all (poops out and then would have to push it back in), and now it will not work at all. Because I cannot get it do to anything, I cannot get location services off of it to send it in to Apple to be repaired. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this, or at least on how to get the location services off, so I can send it in to be fixed? Thank you!

If it has a "button" on the back, that must be the "nub" where you attach the "loop" wrist strap.  It does not serve any other functional purpose (except to attach the loop), so it's odd that it makes a different in the iPod working or not.  So, this is an iPod touch 5th gen?

If you have not already, try restarting the iPod touch.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Since you do not have control from screen, use the method for force restart.

Why do you need to turn OFF location services?  If this is necessary, you can do a Restore on the iPod touch using iTunes.  Do a backup before the Restore, if possible.

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

This erases the iPod touch and sets it to default "factory" condition.  If the screen issue is software-related, it may be resolved by doing a Restore.  Otherwise, it's ready (with your personal user data removed) for servicing.

If you have an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation for the store's Genius Bar, and take it there.
