Apple Watch won't stay connected since iOS 10 and watch OS3 update!

Since updating to iOS 10 and Watch OS3 my apple watch frequently disconnects throughout the day from my phone and the only way to fix it is to turn Bluetooth off and back on. Is there a bug and if so, what is the fix?

Hi

It may help to unpair and re-pair your watch.

The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch when unpairing via the app. Choose to Restore from Backup when offered the option during set up. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).

In that case, the following steps may help:

If the issue persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch checked and, if recommended by Apple, serviced (whether under warranty, if eligible, or via chargeable repair service):

Having the same problem here... Had 6s Plus on iOS 9. No issues at all staying paired with my 1st gen Apple watch. I sold the 6s Plus right before iOS 10 dropped, so did not test the 6s plus + Apple watch together.

Fast forward 3 weeks- my 7 plus on iOS 10 will not stay connected to my apple watch with any consistency. At random points in the day, I notice my watch disconnected from my phone. It will reconnect randomly, however.

I suspect this is software related and will be resolved eventually. Just need to get some visibility on it.

Well, I went to the Genius Bar today.

They ran diagnostics and a bunch of tests on both my watch and on my phone and both had no problems.

The problem to me seems to be with the phone losing Bluetooth connectivity. Again today I had no issues until I hooked it up to my carplay unit with the lightning cable and then I watched the Bluetooth cycle on and off on the phone. I tried a test to leave my phone disconnected after resetting my watch (which we did at the apple store) and after that I had no issues yet.

I am going to try not connecting it again tomorrow during my commute and sew if I have any issues throughout the day. If not, we can safely assume my issue is caused by a software glitch with carplay and Bluetooth after the iOS 10 update.

I also have a watch series 2 coming on Wednesday. Using a different watch and getting the same result will also help to narrow down the problem to the Bluetooth glitch. I'll report back with my findings.
