Q: Face recognition process does not start

The new face recognition feature does not work for me.
I've followed the instructions (no battery mode, app closed or in the background). However, the scan does not start at all.
The library the photos app is running with is on an external hard drive.
I've read users using external hard drives for their library experiencing the same problem.
I've checked the monitor app and the process responsible for scanning the pictures is there (photoanalysisd). But it does not use CPU.
As a result I can't search for faces or neither can I use the new search function which suggests categories based on the scanned pictures.
