iPhoto does not work on sierra

I just updated my Mac software to Sierra.

I can not open iPhoto though....it is saying that I need to update to the latest version. it directs me to the App Store to download the latest version but there it is noting that item is not available in the US store.

Please help ,

Thanks

I just want somewhere I can actually see my photos well displayed in Events on my Mac

Read this user tip: Moments in Photos are the New Events. it has screenshots on how to simulate Events in Photos.

Also, with the 99¢ extension for Photos - External Editors For Photos from the App Store you can use Photoshop and any image editor that's in your Applications folder with Photos. This user tip shows how: External Editors in Photos Are Here

I just tested it again and iPhoto 9.6.1 works just fine on Sierra up to and including 10.12.6 so you have a local problem - for help you have to share details as no one can fix "stopped working"

And you really should learn and switch to Photos - Links to User tips re migrating from iPhoto to Photos - it is new and different and has a learning curve and requires new workflows but is far superior to iPhoto on most ways and getting even better with each new release

I totally agree with the organization benefits of iPhoto over photos. I have 19,000 photos stored on iPhoto, organized by Events. I can remember the Event I'm looking for, but not even which year or day it occurred. I hope I will be able to reinstall iPhoto when High Sierra arrives, as I was able to do with Sierra. I can't imagine why Apple would just drop iPhoto in favor of photos.

Sure, but remember this: iPhoto was removed from sale more than 2 years ago. Development of it ceased maybe a year or more before that. The only thing certain about the future of iPhoto is that at some point in the future a change to the OS will mean it stops working.

So you either you read the writing on the wall and start preparing for that, and make an orderly transition to a new app or you wait until it happens and it's a full blown crisis.

Thanks, Apple, for taking away something that worked great for me and replacing it with something that doesn't. It's becoming a pattern. Please start caring about your customers again. It's the reason you've been the best in the past. Don't lose that. Or you'll lose the customers. PLEASE give me back my Events functionality!!!! PLEEEEASE!!!

You need iPhoto 9.6.1. Which version do you have installed?

The Updates tab of the AppStore does not work any longer for iPhoto, because Apple is no longer selling it. You can only update by reinstalling as described in this User Tip:

Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-8431

But updating is only possible for iPhoto '11 versions associated with your AppleID at the AppStore.

You are very late to the party You need iPhoto 9.6.1 which has been out nearly two years for use with Sierra - what version do you have? this article may help - Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

However this is a temp fix even if you can get 9.6.1 - with some upgrade 9.6.1 will quit working and then you have an emergency - now would be a good time to learn and start using Photos - it is a new, different program and has a learning curve like all new software does - and it does not use all of the same work flows - but once you learn it is is better than iPhoto in nearly every way and has a future with iPhoto does not

Hi OMFD

did you you update to iphoto9.6.1?

I'm was about to update to Sierra when i saw your question. I have iPhoto 9.6.1 already.

I have read contradicting comments online about it working with Sierra.

I plan to export all my pictures out of iPhoto (should have already) to another software package. I'm now wondering if i should do this before i update to Sierra.

many thanks

paul
