FIXED: Had the same problem, as well as an inability to search from the older version of Google Earth Pro. As it turns out it was my add blocker (AdBlock Master). Once I disabled it everything launched and worked without incident.

if the software is still incompatible you need to contact google development and see if they plan to release a new version. Or if you have a Time Machine backup you can restore your system to a time where the OS and this app worked together. Past that Apple does not make googles software and does not make fixes to their OS to accommodate other developers especially when OS X 10.12 was available to google for months to make these changes.
I upgraded to Sierra and Google earth still works. My version of Google Earth is 7.1.5.1557. I am using a MacBook pro from mid 2014. my version of Sierra is 10.12.
see the first link. a goggle developer is acknowledging the problem the OP descries and a potential fix for it.
Thank you JimmyCMPIT... sorry, but I ommitted to mention that whilst Google Earth works OK on my iPhone 4s - my problem is that it does not run on my 27" iMac (late 2013) - since installing macOS Sierra.

FWIW, Google Earth 7.1.7.2602 works in Sierra and has for quite some time.
