After upgrade to Sierra mail will not load remote content. It displays any regular text and the links to the content. In preferences the "Load Remote Content in Messages is checked. I have unchecked it and re-checked it but that did not help.
Under View in the Menu bar while in Mail...
Select "Disable Filter". (Command L)

Click Preferences > Viewing > Load Remote Content in Messages
Thanks for the suggestion but the message filter was already disabled.
Try turning the iCloud storage options and see if that solves your problem. I've heard some users with slower connections have difficulty with using this new option.

Thanks, but I do not use iCloud mail. I have my own domain and mail. They are IMAP accounts on my domain providers service.
I am temporarily using the Airmail app but would prefer to get back to Apples mail app as I have a lot of history in there and prefer to keep all in one place.
This option is unchecked by default for gmail IMAP account , as well for I cloud mail .

I also had this problem but using Apple Mail, Sierra, all up to date. I found that after I unchecked the box load "remote content in messages" I am now able to view the remote content in messages but only after selecting that load remote content box in the email message itself and even at that not for all messages.
Thanks that did it. It worked for all of the messages I had not yet deleted.
I had an issue with mail as well (an Exchange server). I removed the account and re-added it and that seemed to correct it.
What do you mean by "only after selecting that load remote content box in the email message itself?" I don't see such a box.
In the upper right of the Message is a rectangular button the says "Load remote content". Click on it. However, I have found that for a few senders that button does not appear. For those cases if it has content I want to see I use the Airmail 3 app which so far has always worked.

Interestingly, as I have read in posts on other sites, the problem appears to be sporadic in that in emails from many sites the links in the html source code are used to pull remote content and are not seen in the body of the email, but in emails from other senders the links remain and are not used. This means that there must me a problem in Mail itself with respect to its handling of code.
I agree there is a problem in Mail. Today I got a season promotional mail from Apple and there was NO button to load remote content. Couple OS versions ago the Mail app would not work with POP mail accounts until about the third update so their may be hope this will eventually fixed.
