Q: Won't Power On - Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 2.8 (2010/Nehalem)

I own a Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 2.8 (2010/Nehalem). I've never had any problems and have used it for 2 years everyday. However today it will not turn on. I press the power button and hear a click but nothing happens. The power light doesn't even light up.... I also tried holding the power button down and similar result. I'll hear a click after 10 secs but nothing happens.

Help!

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

    Reset the SMC:

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

    - After trying to power on, open the side cover and look for diagnostic light lit on logic board and by memory modules.

    - Check the voltage of the coin battery on the logic board

    - Disconnect everything except, mouse, monitor. This includes pulling out all drive sleds, all PCle cards except graphics card.

    - Last, pull out the graphics card and see what happens

Having been through that with the 6 core, the problem turned out to be a combination of a weak button battery and a failed power supply. Replacing both at the Apple Store got it going again.

One thing that sometimes got it going temporarily before the fix was to unplug the Mac from the power source for at least an hour, then plugging it in and trying to start it. YMMV.
