Q: time machine backups undetected?

when I first started backing up my MacBook Pro (in 2013 under 10.6), I used a 500 gb drive for my backup. when I needed to backup my computer again, I had a 1 TB drive I tried to use (but my computer was having issues with usb ports at the time), so I ended up using a 1.5 TB drive that I had laying around (because it ended up working without fail) on 9/19, I took my computer to apple, and ended up reformatting the hard drive to fix the 'motherboard' issue i was having, and now, Time Machine doesn't appear to see the past backups I made on the 1.5 TB drive... will that will cause a problem when I go to make a backup of my computer in the current state? also, I would like to combine all of the time machine backups onto one drive instead of the three that ended up being made by accident. is there any way to do this? I tried copying the files from the 500 GB drive to the 1.5 TB drive, but I was told I can't modify time machine backups... thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), MacBookPro5,5
