Apple Watch Background App Refresh Won't Disable

I've been having a ton of problems with the Apple Watch Series 1 since I got it in the mail last Friday. First, the battery life isn't that great and I frequently end the day at 20% with only 3 hours of actual usage (light usage), which is extremely poor. I've tried disabling the background app refresh to help with the battery but it keeps re-enabling every time I close the Apple Watch app. I've unpaired my watch 3 different times and repaired it and this keeps happening. I unpaired/repaired today and I set it up as a new watch to see if this would fix anything, which it hasn't. This has been taking up so much of my time this week that I'd just like to get this fixed ASAP. Any help would be appreciated.

The following steps may help:


Toggle the Background App Refresh setting on and then off again, allowing a few moments in between.


Close the Watch app and then restart both your iPhone and your watch:
