Ipod shuffle 3+4 generations - Windows 7 does not recognize, nor does it want to charge.

Hi

None of my Ipods are being recognized by windows 7 - nor Itunes. I have two third gen- and one fourth generation.

I am not sure what the cause is - old drivers? unsupported motherboard? software interference? I can't understand this one.

OS: Windows 7, 64bit

Motherboard: Asrock z97 Extreme 4

I've tried some various things.

- Unofficial charger, official charger.

- If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support -this entire list.

- I have also tried installing itunes from administration profile.

- I tried http://filehippo.com/download_copytrans_drivers_installer/ the copy trans driver installer.

- I have stopped and started the Apple Mobile Device Service. Both rebooting in-between and not, also tried the restart.

- Tried all the USB ports.. several times...

- Disabling, Enabling, Uninstalling device in device manager.

- Scanned for new hardware after having uninstalled it.

- installed usb drivers for my motherboard from asrock.

- removed all other usb connections.

++

How my device manager looks right now: with one fourth gen inserted and not charging

User uploaded file

The nutty part is that - Sometimes it does charge - but it's still not recognized by windows - and im never able to see it in itunes.

Sometimes I can see Unknown device in device manager - but not always. Othertimes I see what you see above in the picture. Then other times there is no indication in the device manager at all that the ipod is present, not Apple ipod, Apple mobile de... nor Unknown device.

When I see the Unknown device or the other two - I am able to install a driver as instructed in the support link.

* However this file is not working for me.

After selecting the .inf file located C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers to install through device manager update manager I get an error.

** "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" **

Question 1 - Is this the most recent and current driver for IPOD shuffles?

- Unofficial charger, official charger.

If "charger" means the USB docking cable, for the "unofficial" one (a third-party product), it needs to be described as being for 3rd and 4th gen shuffle. There are similar-looking products for 2nd gen shuffle; they do not work with 3rd/4th gen shuffle (connector is different).

Use an "official" (ultra-short) docking cable (the one that came with shuffle), and make sure docking cable plug is fully inserted into the shuffle's headphones jack. It should click into place.

- I have also tried installing itunes from administration profile.

If you went through the Apple trouble-shooting article, and then reinstalled iTunes, you may want to completely uninstall iTunes and related software components

Be sure to remove the components of an iTunes installation in the precise order described. Then, download and reinstall the latest version of iTunes from here

Where can i find drivers for apple products in general?

All required drivers are part of the iTunes installation. There are no separate downloads for drivers.

I noticed you said, in your original post

does not recognize, nor does it want to charge.

Even if iTunes (or Windows) does not recognize the shuffle, if it's connected to a powered USB port, it should get power and charge. The shuffle's light should come ON, either solid or blinking.

Do you have a USB power adapter, like the one that comes with iPhone or other device? If you do, connect that docking cable to the power adapter and try the shuffle there. You should get a solid light (orange while charging and green when fully charged) on the shuffle. If there's no light, that docking cable may be faulty (or not compatible). It's possible the problem in on the shuffle side, but since you have three of them, it seems unlikely that all three are bad.

FYI - This is Apple's official replacement cable (for 3rd/4th gen shuffle); it comes with one ultra-short cable (like original) and one long cable

You don't have a working original USB docking cable from one of those three shuffles? The third-party product you linked to claims to work with "iPod Shuffle 2G, Shuffle 3G, Shuffle 4G." I'm suspicious, because a cable that works with 2nd gen should not work with 3rd/4th gen, and vice versa. The connector is different.

I have a third-party docking cable that works with my 2nd gen shuffle. I does not work with my 4th gen shuffle; it does not get power or a data connection.

Sep 24, 2016 2:48 PM in response to Kenichi Watanabe

Yes, I'm also getting suspicious, as I tried them on a laptop. And although the drivers installed easily there, its not managing to maintain a connection to the pc.

My original retail cables that came with my IPOD's have been lost here and there.

I first ordered some third party cables from china - that did not work. I then ordered those that I linked, that I thought were original and would fit. But I have the problem described in this post.

I sent an email to mytrendyphone now about the problem. Hope they reply 🙂 At least I could get a refund, or i could at least get them to investigate what they are selling and fix the advert on their site if its not compatible.
