Q: Seeing Photos in iMovie

Try going to Photos preferences, in the Photos app, and selecting "use as system photo library".   That should

make your Photos media appear in iMovie.   (If the selection is grayed out, then Photos already is your system library and the answer will lie elsewhere. ) 

If "use as system library" is grayed out, then your Photos library already is the system library. 

Looking at your screen shot, what options do you get when you click on "all clips" at the top of the media browser?  Where were the stills in your time line imported from?  What operating system are you using?

Since iMovie is free, so it is unavoidably restricted in some functions. So maybe a paid one can help you a lot.

And i chose iorgsoft video editor which is a very powerful video editing software and i love it, maybe you can have a try.

If you have more than one Photos library, make sure that iMovie is connected to the correct one. 

You can try these three commonly used trouble shooting procedures:

1. Delete preferences by restarting your computer, and launching iMovie while holding down the option and command keys.  Then select the delete preferences option in the resulting dialogue box.

  2.  Try launching iMovie in a different user account.  You can use your guest account for this purpose.

  3. Try creating a new project and copy/pasting into it the media from your current project. Or, start over from scratch. 

If nothing works, try creating a new library and working out of that one.

You always have the option of putting photos from your Photos app into a desktop folder, and then dragging them into iMovie from there. 

Trouble shooting can be time consuming until you hit on the right solution.  Hang in there.

If nothing else has worked so far, you might try this:   Restart your computer, open the Photos app, park it on the Dock, and then open iMovie.     Now see if iMovie will read the photos.
