HP Photosmart C7280 Scanner no more detected since Mac OS Sierra installed

Confirmed solution. I followed your suggestion and it now works!

For completeness:

1) Driver for hp c7280 on fresh Sierra installation was not detected (printer was assigned generic PCL driver).

2) Downloaded collective driver from Apple: HP Printer Drivers v5.0 for OS X

3) Printer was now detected but NO scanner.

4) Reset printing system and reboot

5) Re-installed printer and now both Print & Scan!

Drivers for HP printers and scanners are downloaded through the App Store, have you checked if there are any updates for your HP product.

What OS did you upgrade from?

Did you download the HP Scan Utility?

You may have to reset the printing system, see this page from Apple, Resolve printer issues on your Mac - Apple Support

It is very important that the printer is connected by USB cable, when resetting.

Can you post a screenshot of your Printer and Scanner Preferences from System Preferences.

HP Easy Scan does NOT resolve this problem (for me), which is what HP alludes to as the solution. It can't see the Scanner either (I also have an HP C7280 multifunction). My Sierra upgrade made the Printer Utility software "hang" when you clicked the Open Scanner button. I removed the C7280n device and re added it, and now the Printer Utility doesn't even give me the Scan option. My current solution is to connect the C7280 via USB to the computer and it all works properly...not a long term solution given we have 4 computers that need to use the C7280. This seems to point to something with the bonjour protocol and how Sierra processes it ... but that's merely a guess.

I also migrated from El Capitan (I have had the same C7280 installed and working since Snow Leopard).

HP has discontinued that model. You'll have to try 3rd party scan software like VueScan. It works with all scanners. You can run it in demo mode to see if it will do what you want.

If the 64 bit version doesn't work try the 32 bit version. That's what I had to do for my old Canon scanner.

I Think that Apple need to remove the problem of the missing scanner tru network.

I have virtualized ios 10.11 under sierra, the scanner work fine.

Anyway work fine trough usb connection.

The 3rd party SW not work well as the interface apple.

I have the exact same problem. The scan tab has been removed from System Preferences. I am hoping someone is able to come up with a resolution to this issue. This will be my last HP printer. The support for this printer from HP on Mac's has been horrible since day one. HP Easy Scan doesn't work, and even if it did, it's only a work around and not a real fix.

HP Easy Scan error: "Photosmart C7200 series is currently unavailable. Please check if it is turned on and connected, or try again later."
