Why has my touchpad on MacPro stopped responding?

During the past week I installed Mac OS Sierra on my MacPro. Since then, my touchpad is not responding, and system has slowed to snail pace. Why?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), iOS 10

Occasionally an older battery will start failing and start to expand. That will often interfere with the trackpad. Open the MBP and inspect the battery. If there are any signs of expansion, remove it immediately because continued expansion can severely damage the MBP.

MBP = Macbook Pro.

Use a #00 Phillips driver to take off the bottom panel of the MBP. Note that in the middle of the panel there is a snap that may offer resistance when taking the panel off. Just apply continued increasing pressure until it snaps free.
