Why Doesn't iMovie Have Simple Free Form Text Add?

I know iMovie has Titles that you can add, but it doesn't have free form text that you can add to have anything of much substance for text. You always have to create in your favorite photo program. This is really missing from this program unless I'm missing something about the program?
