Q: Can I duplicate a Multicam clip?

I have a fairly complex multicam clip which FCPX didn't sync too well, so I did most of it manually. Now it's done, I realise it would have been much better if it was two separate multicam clips.

To save all the hassle of syncing it again, I'd like to duplicate the Multicam Clip and then delete the beginning off one, and the end off the other, so the duplicated clips must be entirely independent of each other.

There doesn't appear to be a way to duplicate Multicam Clips in the Browser (presumably because they'll have the same links and altering one will affect the other).

Is there a way to create an independent duplicate MC clip?

    Hey Andy,

If you create a new library and move the multicam to the event in the new library it should copy it and let you edit it independently of the original lib.

    Thanks, Russ.

I read about this on Larry Jordan's website and tried it just now.

It's something of a workaround, but we got there! Hopefully there's some better way to do it - or will be soon.

I'm a little confused and must be missing something. I can duplicate a mulitcam clip in the browser and make changes to it, shift the clips around, and it does effect the original Multicam clip. What am I missing?

    Thanks.

    TOM'S WAS THE CORRECT ANSWER!

My mistake Tom. I see now that Cmd+D will duplicate a Multicam Clip.

I was being lazy and only right-clicking with the mouse - and that revealed no Duplicate option.

Your reply is not clear though - you say "and it does effect the original". I presume you mean it does NOT affect the original as I've tried it, and on my system it the original remains unchanged.

Either way, you should have had the "Solved" medallion but as I already allocated that to Russ, all I have left to offer is "Helpful" - sorry.

To be honest after all these years I still cannot get the distinction right. That's why books have editor.

Yes. It would be nice to be able to undo points.

Have to confess that I'didn't try the straigjtforward approach.

    Good to know.
