Q: How to restore the original partition after accidentally reformatting the windows 10 installation
See problem below. I cannot get a USB stick formatted with FAT to be recognised by bootcamp either to download the drivers to proceed.
The problem occurred after my son wanted to re-install windows 7 after it was upgraded to windows 10 and used disk utilities to reformat the windows installed drive.
MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), Mac book is from 2010

The partition is now an HFS+ file system. You can remove it using BC assistant after reformatting it as FAT32 using the following OSX Terminal command.
diskutil eraseVolume fat32 BOOTCAMP disk0s4
this can also be done via DU UI.
Afree you remove it, reinstall W7/W10, as desired.
