Q: Tinny audio in fcp10.3 issues

Hi everyone, I'm importing mpeg4 video clips from Dropbox, the audio sounds fine they are studio quality recorded. However, once imported into fcp they sound "tinny". I did see a post somewhere about in checking the preserve pitch but when I go to that in the audio menu it is checked but grayed out, so I can't change it. Is this the problem, if so how can I uncheck it or is there another solution to fixing this problem.

Preserve Pitch only applies to re-timmed audio. Mpeg4 audio is horrible to use for editing. I'd strongly suggest Optimizing those clips first, don't bother with MP4. The audio is probably in some super duper compressed format inside that wrapper. That's what the issue is, and only reformatting the audio compression will fix it.

Thanks Ben, greatly appreciated! But here is the issue, they are video / audio clips together, and I have no control over what the client is sending me. So what can I do outside of fcp to optimize prior to import, can you recommend a program.

When importing, in the Import window, set it to Leave Files In Place, and Optimize.
