Q: Mail App crashes

Dear all,

after having updated my iMac 27 end 2013 to Sierra I am facing issues with the mail application.

It crashes after a couple of seconds. Attached one piece of the error code. Do you need the whole?

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks a lot!

Best,

Deni

Try setting up a test account, see if the problem's global, or just related to your account.

    CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups.

Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

You can skip signing in with your Apple ID unless you need to test iCloud Mail.

Only default Apple apps will  be in the Dock in the new User. Go to Applications to open other apps you might want to test.

Do you still see the issue?

If yes, then the problem is with your base files.

If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.

    @dianeoforegon

    Thanks for this manual.

The problem is due to the base files.

    What can I do now?

    Thank you!

    You'll need to reinstall Sierra.

    How to reinstall OS X

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

If Mail crashes in your User, then test in Guest or new User. It's possible we'll also need to do some cleanup in your User's folder after you do the reinstall of Sierra.

    Thank you.

    I have deleted all accounts.

Then started to add them one by one.

I think that Gmail is the problem maker...

The app is now downloading all emails from the server. Let me test whether it really works without the google account..

    otherwise I need to re-install..

    Hello Diane Of Oregon,

My mail crashes all the time when I activate it.

I did as you told Denkooo to do, but my problem is probably with my users folder, since the new user's mail application seems to work fine.

Unfortunately I do not know how to solve it myself.

I allready deleted my google account from mail and another old account, that did not work anymore, this did not solve my problem.

If it is not too much of a nuisance, could you please tell me what I can do to solve the problem?

    I will be very grateful.

I use a mac mini late 2012 which is still running on Maverick, since I cannot upgrade because of some of the applications I am using.

    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

We can move you to the new User or we can backup as clone, boot from the clone and do a clean install of Sierra. I need the following info:

    • Use Disk Utility to find out how much free space used and available on your internal HD.
    • If you have another drive or can purchase an external drive that would also give us another option to fix your problems.

    Hello again,

I somehow fixed the problem myself by disabling all the accounts and enabling them again.

Mail seems to work fine again.

Thank you for your time and good luck,
