Q: Apple Watch Issues

Help!

I am having two issues with my Apple Watch and no doubt they are linked.

Problem #1: I can't get Apple Pay to be set up on my Apple Watch Series 1 (old watch).

- This is my only Apple Watch and the only one I have ever owned (working watchOS 3)

- I have set up my card with my bank and have successfully used it today at a store using Apple Pay on my iPhone 7.

- My watch app on my iphone has, under General, my Apple ID listed with no ability to press anywhere on the Apple ID screen but just shows my email address linked to my Apple ID account (nothing else).

- I have tried restarting both my phone and watch by powering off

- My card linked to my Wallet and Apple ID appears on my watch app on my iPhone when you look under the Wallet and Apple Pay folder of my watch app on iPhone. It has a "Add" button in orange. I click on this and it brings up a box stating "Could Not Set Up Apple Pay - An error occurred while setting up Apple Pay". You are forced to click "OK".

          - I can only assume this is because this is an untrusted device or "two-way authentication" requirement. If that is the case, I am having trouble figuring out how to set up two-way authentication on my Apple Watch to make it trusted.

Problem #2: I can't set up the Apple Watch to unlock Sierra iMac or Sierra Macbook.

- My computer has been set to unlock with Apple Watch. I have completed the two way authentication (except for above issue of authenticating the Apple Watch (in device list is showing as untrusted because I can't figure out how to do it). Still won't unlock the computer.

Please help. Really want to resolve.

Two-way authentication is not necessary to set up Apple Pay on the Apple Watch. I don't use it, and did not have my Apple Pay set up on my watch. To test, I tapped on Add for one of the cards in my phone, and all it asked for was the CSV and added it right away. See this page from the Apple Watch User Guide for a start. http://help.apple.com/watch/#/apd76424826d

Do you have a passcode set on your watch? This Apple Support document is more in depth instructions on setting up Apple Pay on all of your devices. Set up Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac - Apple Support

    Hope some of this helps.

I'm sorry, I'm not a Mac user, so I could not address the issue with using the watch to unlock the computer. I've seen a number of threads here about it, you may want to do a search of the forum for the last couple of days since the release of Sierra for more information.

    Hi

Check that you are following all of the steps here:

To be able to add cards to Apple Pay on your watch, you must have the relevant region setting selected for it (as on your iPhone):

    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Language & Region - check that correct Region Format is selected.
    • If these settings are already correct, try reselecting the same Region Format and also the same System Language - these steps have resolved the same issue for other users.

Auto Unlock with Apple Watch is available for Mac models from mid-2013 and later running macOS Sierra.

If your Mac is compatible, check that:

    • Your Mac has both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.
    • Your Apple ID is using two-factor authentication (as opposed to two-step verification):
    • Your Mac and Apple Watch are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID:
      • On your Mac, choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
      • On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then go to General > Apple ID.
    • Your Apple Watch is using a passcode:
      • On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then tap Passcode.
    • Handoff is enabled on each of your iPhone and your Mac:
      • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > General > Handoff.
      • On your Mac, go to: System Preferences > General - near the bottom, check the option for "Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices".
      • If these settings are already enabled, one user found that it helped to disable and re-enable Handoff on their iPhone.

Checked this. Didn't work. Also, tried all the other tricks from the forum... tried:

    (1) Wifi off - no luck

    (2) Phone restart - no luck

    (3) Region/language check - already correct

    (4) Wifi off then power off  - no luck

    (5) Logging out and back in on iCloud Account on iPhone - no luck

    (6) Turning on and off Apple Watch - no luck

    (7) I heard resetting phone would work but just can't do it

    (8) I tried everything mentioned above. All was already correct so no need to retrace my steps. Blutooth on, wifi, on, handoffs on, etc.

This is why I switched to Apple and have everything Apple. In 2 years this is my first problem. I just want my junk to work...  thanks for your time.

I struggled for hours to enable Auto Unlock feature on my iMac using my AppleWatch.  First, I had to convert my AppleID from two-step authentication to two-factor authentication.  After doing that I could not see the option to check the "Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac" checkbox.  I spent a couple of hours on the phone with Apple Support and still did not have the issue resolved.  I spent a couple more hours trying things and FINALLY I have just resolved it.

ISSUE:  I originally had obtained an AppleID prior to MobileMe and iCloud.  With these new iterations of Apple's cloud services, my AppleID was merged into xxxx@me.com and xxxx@icloud.com.  I have been using these newer AppleIDs when signing into my iMac, iPhone and AppleWatch.  However, I noticed that the original AppleID was still listed as the main one when I logged in to Manage my AppleID.

THE FIX:  I signed out of all of my devices and resigned in using my original AppleID.  After doing this, I was able to see the "Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac" checkbox.  After checking the box, I still got errors that my Mac and Watch should not communicate.  After rebooting both devices, I was able to successfully check the box and the Auto Unlock feature is not working.  YEAH!
