How do I save messages on mac while deleting from iPhone?

Handoff is setup.

Versions: iPhone 6S 10.0.1; Macbook Pro 10.11.6

1. I know how to close conversations on Mac, which I understand archives the messages, but where do they go?

2. How do I Recover Archived messages from Closed Conversations on Mac?

3. If I delete messages and/or conversations on iPhone to save storage space, are they still automatically saved on Mac, or will I end up deleting them in both places at the same time?

4. If I allow messages to Expire on iPhone, are they still automatically saved on the Mac?

Thanks.

Laura

When you send and receive messages on your Mac, you're actually sending and receiving them on your iPhone. The Mac is just an extension of the phone.

All of the messages are saved on the phone. Archived messages are encrypted, and they are not recoverable.

If you delete messages on the iPhone, they will also be deleted on the Mac. Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support
