Syncing iPhone 6s Plus to iTunes

I have updated my iTunes and my iPhone to the most current versions. When I try to sync my phone to my computer it wants to either set it up as a brand new phone or restore to a previous point. This is not a new phone and it has been synced to my computer before. I have tried to do the restore to see if it would then work but then it always errors out and doesn't complete in the eyes of the computer. My phone though does actually complete the restore. Any ideas of what is going on and how I can actually get my phone to sync properly?

Choose the set up as new iPhone option. This won't change any content on the device, though if iTunes isn't recognizing it as one that has connected previously then when you sync it will probably want to erase and reload media. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device if there is any content on the device that isn't in the library (although I suspect it is too late for that).
