Q: Safari generated passwords.  Where is the Safari generated password I used to get a new password for my Yahoo account?  Safari preferences passwords shows my old Yahoo password.  How do I access the Safari generated ling and complicated passwords?

I changed my Yahoo account password with the Safari generated long and complicated password rather than making up my own password because it seemed safer.  But where is the Safari generated password?  It's not in Safari preferences passwords, that still shows the old Yahoo password I generated.  It's not in keychain access, that also shows the old password.  This is the first time I allowed and accepted the Safari generated password and assumed Safari would remember it when I visit the Yahoo website. It does not.  Yahoo asks me to enter my new password and I don't know what Safari generated.  Does anyone use the Safari generated passwords?

What you're referring to isn't a "Safari generated password", but actually from Keychain.

First off, open Keychain Access.app (located in /Applications/Utilities/). Once there, scroll through the list of keys until you find the one that you're looking for. Double click on it and check the box that says, "Show Password." Once you authenticate with your user credentials, your forgotten password will be displayed in the text box.

If you change a password for a website, safari asks you if you want to save it, if you choose 'no' it will continue to use your old one. It sounds like this has happened to me.

Go to the site, manually enter the new password and then opt to save it when prompted.

I did that and the password shown in keychain is the old Yahoo password, not the new one that was generated.  I went back to Yahoo and changed my password again.  I took a picture of what happened so I could remember.  It says "use Safari suggested password (then a  long password is shown).  This password will be saved in  your iCloud Keychain so it is available for Autofill on all your devices".  This did not happen again.  I want to use the so-called "Safari suggested password" because it looks safer but when I try to sign in it is not autofilled.  So I'm just going to keep making up my own passwords I guess.  When I type in my own made up password I'm asked if I want to save it and I say yes then it is saved in Safari preferences passwords.

when I use my own made up password, I'm asked if I want to save it and I always say yes.  I went back to Yahoo to enter a new password.  When it says "use Safari suggested password (then a long password is shown) and it says "this password will be saved in your iCloud Keychain so it is available for Autofill on all of your devices".  I used the Safari suggested password and it isn't saved anywhere.
