Q: iMovie Bad Video Quality

When playing videos back in iMovie, it looks a lot blurrier than the original footage. But when I pause the video, it corrects itself and looks fine. I have seen a post already on this topic and the best answer said to change the Playback Quality in iMovie preferences, but that option is no longer there. This has not happened to me in the past.

iMac 21.5in 2011

OSX El Capitan 10.11.6

How much RAM do you have and how much empty hard drive space?

And, which iMovie version?

Yes, I think this is due to your relatively slow machine not being able to keep up with rendering in real time. To get around this iMovie lowers the resolution when playing in the viewer. The good news is that this should not affect the movie after sharing.

The playback quality option can be found in the drop down menu at the top of the viewer on the right. Click on the caret by view.
