Q: Mac mini (Late 2012) Blinking Question Mark Folder - Recovery doesn't work

Hello everyone,

earlier today I upgraded my Mac mini (Late 2012) to the latest version of macOS Sierra.

After 1 hour of usage I realized that a lot of my FCPX plugins weren't working.

I contacted the developers and they told me they won't update their plugins, and told me to downgrade to El Capitan.

I decided to listen to them and try to downgrade my OS.

I restarted the Mac and held down the Cmd-R or something like that which took me to the Disk Utility screen.

Then I went downstairs to eat dinner and when I went back up 30 minutes later my Mac had entered sleep mode for some reason.

I woke the Mac up and 40 seconds later the power went out for 5-10 minutes.

After the power outage I restarted my Mac which took me to a black screen with a blinking question mark folder.

I followed some tutorials online (including how to enter recover- and internet recovery mode) but after a while even internet recovery shows me the blinking question mark folder.

I don't know what to do.

And no - unfortunately I don't have a Time Machine backup.

But I have a backup with all of my most important files.

Is there any way to force the Mac to reset itself or something like that?

Please help.

Best regards,

Filip

What exactly happens when you boot to Internet Recovery

holding down Option-Command-R to start up from OS X Internet Recovery*.

and go to Disk Utility and repair the startup disk?

If repairable, format the startup disk and install OSX via Recovery. you will install either Mountain Lion or Mavericks depending upon when the Mac was manufactured. Then upgrade OSX to what you want.

No, when I'm holding down Option-Command-R the "Internet recovery globe" spins for about 3 minutes and then it takes me back to the blinking question mark folder again.

In other words I'm not even able to access the Disk Utility anymore.

UPDATE: The globe stopped spinning (again) but instead of showing me the blinking question mark folder a text appeared below the globe: "apple.com/support -2002F"
