Q: Macbook Pro randomly gets stuck on white screen of death?

Hello, I have a Macbook Pro 15" 2010 with a 250 GB SSD. I just bought this used ~two weeks ago, and it worked perfect for a week! Randomly however, sometimes when I shut down my laptop, it will turn on and get stuck on the white screen of death. If I click restart on my laptop, it always boots perfectly, but occasionally when I shut down, it will have trouble booting.

The laptop owner stated that he had apple check the hardware any everything came back perfect, and he had just replaced it with an SSD to make it fast. When it works, it is FAST and works amazing! When not however, I have to wait in between boot ups to use it which really blows!

It seems the computer has an issue when it turns off, since restarts work perfect and has trouble only when shutting down or occasionally when it falls asleep. I don't want to return the computer because I do like it and I'm sure it would be a simple fix. What could cause this? Could the owner have put the SSD in wrong?

     Any help would be great!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

You are in possession of the Edsel of Macs. It suffers from a variety of unfixable video problems requiring the replacement of the motherboard. If you have the option to return it and get your money back, then I would recommend it. Spend some extra money and get the 2012 non-Retina model.
