Sep 25, 2016 12:21 AM in response to timmy190by Daniel Ebeck,★HelpfulFirst things first; do you have a Time Machine backup?
You should boot into Recovery Mode by holding Cmd-R at the chime. From there you can restore from a TM backup, if you have a full one, or you can reinstall the OS. More details about Recovery mode : About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
If you have a backup, opt to do a full restore of the whole system. It will take longer, but you can be sure that you have everything.
Reinstalling will require a lengthy download from Apple, so make sure that you have the power plugged in, and ethernet if possible. For the future, it's worth keeping a bootable installer drive around; Create a bootable installer for OS X - Apple Support. They are cheap, effective, and save a lot of hassle. I have one for 10.8, 10.9, 10.10, 10.11 and I'll make one for 10.12 this week.
If the install pauses, you can select the Installer Log from the Window Menu to see what is happening at the time.

Sep 25, 2016 12:34 AM in response to Daniel Ebeckby timmy190,hi, thanks for your reply, trying to do a time machine mackup was the reason why i deleted data. I used a 16gb usb to backup my mac, which didn't had enough space. Therefore i don't have any backup. I then followed a guide telling me to use disc utility and delete exstended (journaled) on the disc and reinatall osX which i did, and still ending up with s feozen screen.

Sep 25, 2016 12:45 AM in response to timmy190by Daniel Ebeck,Hoo, crap.
Right, lets get some info.
What exactly is your Mac; laptop, iMac?
How big is the drive?
Detail, exactly, what you have done so far. I've got:
- You wanted to make a backup.
- The backup drive wasn't big enough, so you tried to clear stuff off the HDD.
- You deleted the private folder (big mistake!)
- It wouldn't work properly any more.
- You booted into Recovery and used DiskUtility; what exactly did you delete?
- Now you can't get the OS to install; what exactly have you done and what, exactly, is the error message?
Details please.

Sep 25, 2016 1:03 AM in response to Daniel Ebeckby timmy190,It is a macbook pro 13.3" with 500 gb harddisk, using yosemite and intel core i5
yes, i tried to get more space, deleted the private folder, and then i saw that i couldn't open safari, app store etc. I knew i did something stupid and rebooted my mac to factory settings using cmd+R while turning my mac on. In this i clicked on disc utility and then my harddisk. Went to "clear" and deleted the one called "exstended(journaled)" after this i went back and installed new os X. And went through all the basics, but when i came to the last step it said "installing your mac" and it just froze there.

Sep 25, 2016 1:34 AM in response to timmy190by Daniel Ebeck,Sounds like you have got most of the way through. Have you tried a hard shutdown by holding the power key until it switches off? Then wait 30 seconds and reboot.

Sep 25, 2016 9:52 AM in response to timmy190by Eric Root,Clarification questions - have you managed to back up any of your data? Have your erased/reformatted the hard drive before reinstalling the OS? Have you tried booting into Internet Recovery (command - option/alt - R on a restart)? It is a slow process. This will install the OS that the computer shipped with. You can then try to upgrade from there.

Sep 25, 2016 2:05 PM in response to timmy190by Daniel Ebeck,I'd also try to Safe Boot it before you try to do another install. Safe Boot by holding down the Shift key when you turn it on. It will take longer to boot than normal. Once you get to the Login screen you will see "Safe Boot" in red next to the clock. Then reboot normally.
