After upgrading to Sierra, my Mac Mail Inbox opens with the slider showing the oldest messages, so I have to slide down manually to the most recent messages every time. No other Mail folder behaves like this, and none did before Sierra either. Anyone?

Thanks, nice try. But it does not adress my actual problem, which I have tried to describe - not the order of the posts in the folder but where the scroll bar is placed when I open the window. Plus it would be nice to get back this very standard function without home made workarounds.

Interesting - so it is NOT related to updating to Mac OS Sierra for you? I'm assuming it is a Sierra bug and have reported it to Apple as such - thanks for the link Luis.
That works for me as long as long as I don't quit and then restart Mail.
cna you tell me what key the fn is? I have n ipad and it doesnt show that.
Agreed, but the problem is the same. I will see if i can find an ipad thread, but i have the same problem.
