Sep 25, 2016 2:56 PM in response to Diana.McCallby Raisingcain,When I was going through setup, the app asks me if I see my Apple TV and if I don't check to make sure I'm on the same wifi. When I go to Apple TV menu, it shows Ethernet. Would the Apple TV need be unplugged from the network cable and setup to wifi, then after setup plug it back in and it all work?

Sep 25, 2016 5:13 PM in response to Raisingcainby Diana.McCall,Do you see your Apple TV? If you do, you're good. If you don't, try restarting the router. The Remote app relies on the Bonjour protocol, the same as AirPlay. Some older routers don't route the required packets between the wired and wireless VLANs. Setting up with WiFi then reverting to wired won't work, because it needs to find the device every ti e you use it.

Sep 25, 2016 6:10 PM in response to Raisingcainby Diana.McCall,That's not good. It may be able to talk to Apple TV but not receive the response. Force quit the app and try it again. Are you using DHCP for all your devices, or have you tried to assign a static IP to tje Apple TV?

Sep 25, 2016 7:36 PM in response to Raisingcainby D_@_n,Yes, that is correct. You can't be on 2 different networks. Both your iphone and apple tv need to be on the same wifi network. The reason being is because after you download the remote app you need to setup the HomeSharing from your ATV in order the iphone to see it.
So go ahead and connect to the wifi. Once connected and you get an ip address from the wireless router you can now setup the remote app using the home sharing
Here is a link on how to do it. Just scroll down and read the info.

Also make sure you to use the same appleid and password for both iphone and ATV. Sometimes using different apple ids can cause issues from app to app.

Sep 25, 2016 7:53 PM in response to vazandrewby D_@_n,That is correct Andrew, he can connect to the ethernet but he will get 2 different ip addresses and may complicate things if he will not know how to connect to wifi after that.
I would suggest in unplugging the ethernet cable and connect to wifi firstly. Once he gets the home sharing working he can plug back in the ethernet cable and he will have 2 connections (2 ip addresses) from the router.
I am thinking that the reason why he chose ethernet cable from teh very beginning was so he can get better internet streaming.

Sep 25, 2016 8:13 PM in response to vazandrewby D_@_n,So there are 2 apps now in the store or was there an update to the old app ?

Sep 25, 2016 8:48 PM in response to D_@_nby vazandrew,There's two apps. The old one is now just for iTunes and has been rebranded, this one is for Apple TV and for those who have the 4th gen it behaves exactly like the Siri remote.
