I can't open anything on my macbook without having to triple click on it

My Macbook has been working fine up until recently, where I tried to open some screenshots that were on my desktop and they wouldn't open, not matter how much I double clicked them. After a bit, I found out that I had to click them 3 times quickly for them to open. I also discovered that this applies for literally any application on my desktop, or in my folders. If I want to open something like Steam, I'd have to triple click it. This isn't that HUGE of a problem, but it's extremely annoying, and I don't know what's causing it. How do I get it back to normal?
