Various system processes drive CPU insane

I'm not sure where to begin - a rotating number of system processes drive my CPU insane to the point where my 2014 rMBP lasts maybe 3 hours off the charger and keeps the fans high.

The processes include:

  • Google Chrome Helper
  • CalendarAgent
  • CalNCService
  • PhotoAnalysis
  • Sophos-related processes (it's a commercial anti-virus app that I'm required to have on my computer per work/school)

Things I've tried, to no permanent avail:

  • Resetting my keychain - that causes a sleuth of other problems leading to--
  • Restoring my computer from a Time Machine back up
  • Removing all 3 Google calendars I have linked
  • Deleting caches

Ideas? I'm a student, so it's either deal with the embarrassment of fans blaring out of control...or burning my wrists while in the middle of class. I did just note that running my MBP with an external display made it calm down but the processes still zip up intermittently.
