Q: iMac running HOT after Sierra install

Try each of these in order. Test to see if the computer is working properly:
- Reset the PRAM
- Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)
- Start the computer in Safe Mode, then restart normally. This is slower than a standard startup.
- Repair the disk by booting the from the Recovery HD. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears. Choose Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the the side list. Click on the First Aid button in the toolbar. Wait for the Done button to appear. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu. Restart the computer from the Apple Menu.
- Reinstall OS X by booting from the Recovery HD using the Command and R keys. When the Utility Menu appears select Reinstall OS X then click on the Continue button.

Spotlight indexing can take a long time after installing an operating system upgrade: If the fans on your Mac notebook computer run after you migrate data - Apple Support. If your Photos library contains thousands of photographs, it will take a long time for the upgraded Photos app to analyze your library.
To identify the apps or processes that may be burdening your Mac, please refer to Use Activity Monitor on your Mac - Apple Support. Post a screenshot of that Activity Monitor window, similar to the following, with the CPU tab selected, and the %CPU column sorted in decreasing order:

Sep 26, 2016 2:50 AMby Sal Serio,I have run the Activity Monitor earlier and checked what processes were using a lot of CPU, but nothing really jumped out. Will try it again. I'll also read the post you suggested.
As far as the indexing I installed Sierra on 9/20/16 the day it was released and I didn't notice these issue until 9/24/16, so how long would indexing normally take, if that is what is causing the problem?
Like I mentioned to Kappy, I think Sierra is the cause of these issues and hopefully Apple will be releasing a fix shortly.

Please address this asap and release an update - really poor form from Apple

I had the same issue after installing Sierra
After searching, pretty sure it is the initial photoanalysis (it is using large amounts of CPU)This analysis is almost finished - Has taken a good day, so will confirm after it's completed.
