Q: Siri works fine on my macbook air when on my phones hotspot but says " no internet connection" when connected through my college lan network [with proxy server ]. What should I do?

I use the college lan network for internet browsing etc through a ethernet cable. Siri says "no internet available" even though the internet is perfectly working. I then tried creating a hotspot through my phone and connected my mac to it and then Siri worked perfectly. What is the solution to make it work on my college network?

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015), iOS 10, macOS sierra

    Hi sanjay nath,

I understand that you are unable to use Siri in macOS Sierra through your school network. I know that she's a great personal assistant and it'll be nice to use her on your MacBook Air as well, so I'm happy to help.

It's not uncommon for networks used by a large number of people in a controlled environment (such as a school or workplace) to have restrictions. Since Siri is working fine through your personal hotspot and only unable to connect when using your school network, it is likely that the school is blocking traffic to Siri. To resolve this, you would want to talk to your school's IT department about allowing this sort of traffic through the network.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!
