When I type "Shift-3" for a British pound sign, I get # "hash". Have I done something silly to my keyboard and if so, how do I undo it?
I'm running Mac (20-inch, Early 2008), OS X, 10.11.6, using wireless keyboard model no A1314
Go to System Preferences - Keyboard - Input Sources. There you can use + sign to enable British keyboard which has £ sign on shift+3. You can also checkbox "Show Input menu in menu bar" so you can easily switch between different keyboards.
