iMac OS X EI Captain: safari v norton?

We have run 'Norton' as a 2nd safety measure since purchase. Norton now want to add extensions for 'safe' browsing and when this happens we are unable to use Safari as the browser as Norton take the browser over. The extensions have been removed and so we have Safari back but concerned that we are constantly being advised that the browser is not safe and to add the extension via Norton? Can anyone please inform me if this is required in light of the constant reminders of hacking via emails and recognised web sites having bugs planted on that will encrypt data in a surreptitious manner

Uninstall Norton immediately, it has a VERY long history of creating more problems than it solves with OS X. OS X does not need ANY type of AV, cleaning or third party maintenance apps. If left alone and simply kept up-to-date OS X is EXTREMELY secure and will run reliably for years. Locate Norton's uninstall instruction and uninstall it immediately!
